We are Together in this epidemic situation: Reopening the applications for Summer Internship Program

The COVID-19 virus has led to one of the biggest epidemics the world has ever seen. It has now taken over and we are all affected by this. India recorded its first case of Corona Virus back in January 2020 and the numbers have been increasing ever since. With its exponential rise, the country, along with the world, has seen a major loss of lives, jobs, resources, and opportunities. The extent of severity with which this infestation has hit us is not limited to our physical lives. It has also had a similar, if not worse, the toll on our mental health.

Among those worst affected by this disaster are the students of various top engineering and management colleges. As a mandatory part of their curriculum, most of these students are required to complete a summer internship project which is further graded as a credit course. The summer internship also serves as the first corporate exposure for many of the students who are freshers and still haven’t had a stint in the corporate world. The takeaways from this internship are unparalleled and play an extremely crucial part in shaping the careers of these future leaders. Since the lockdown, companies have shut down their offices and this has led to either cancellation or indefinite postponement of the summer internships scored by the students. This has led the students in a frenzy as they are uncertain about their future in regard to the internships.

The business environment is increasingly becoming uncertain and complex due to this pandemic. In rapidly changing environments, one rule of thumb applies: If you don’t adapt, you don’t survive. During this period, We at Frinza.com, which is an AI & ML oriented gifting E-commerce company, based out of Bengaluru providing pan-India delivery with services across 5 countries, have shown an initiative and also taken some measures towards the amelioration of the situation. We had already completed and closed our hiring drive for this year back in November 2019 but seeing the current situation, we are now reopening the hiring process to help the students in need.

Our HR team have been receiving several emails regarding the issue, based on this one can reckon the level of anguish and frustration that the students are going through. The worst part of all this is that many of these students had already scored commendable internships in some of the best corporate firms in the country. The best we can do at this time is to give the deserving ones among them a chance to get back on track and not be affected by this godforsaken situation. Moreover, we would like to believe that this initiative of ours will in turn motivate other companies to do the same thus creating a chain.

As a socially responsible company, we felt it to be our duty to look out for the students whose careers lie in jeopardy due to the ongoing situation. So, after thorough brainstorming and discussion, we have decided to create a quick response team (QRT) within our HR department to lend a helping hand to the students. This new division of ours will be managing and mentoring the students who are feeling helpless and are desperately looking for summer internship opportunities. We will also be providing guidance to the students in need and thus help them in carving a niche for themselves in the corporate world.

Interested students can reach out to us with their resume and a cover letter at [email protected]. Please note that as the situation allows, the internships will be virtual and the duration will be 8 weeks starting from April.
